Amazing Spaces-Amazing Insulation

Earlier this year, we carried out spray foam insulation treatment to a Sea King helicopter which recently featured in George Clarks’ Amazing Spaces on Channel 4. Catch up with the programme here.

The helicopter was originally bought from the MOD by the owners of Mains Farm Wigwams of Thornhill near Stirling for conversion into a luxury holiday home to sleep a family of up to 5. It’s now been added to their range of accommodation which includes caravans and wigwams with extensive views over the surrounding countryside.

The helicopter was sprayed with BASF WALLTITE CL100 closed cell foam to insulate the aircraft and reduce any risk of condensation forming on the metal fuselage. In order to incorporate a shower room, beds, a kitchen and dining area, internal space had to be maximised and the foam treatment was ideal as it didn’t require any special fixings or ventilated spaces whilst also overcoming any potential thermal bridging issues. The seamless and high adhesion properties of the material also meant that the unusual curved shape of the fuselage could be fully treated without cutting or forming joints. The project was filmed over several weeks with key elements such as the spray foam treatment being featured in the programme. Filmed in real time the application process was seen to be quick and effective and the helicopter was treated within one day.

This was an unusual but interesting project to be involved with which emphasized the varied uses and applications to which sprayed insulation can be applied. We have now successfully completed work covering the Land, Sea and Air including buildings, marine craft and of course this Sea King helicopter.

Scottish Homebuilding and Renovating Show 2015

Come and visit us at this year’s Homebuilding  and Renovating Show being held at the SECC on the 16th and 17th May. This will be our 7th year at the event which has proved invaluable for those considering  building and improvement projects for their homes.

Over the years we have spoken to many folk and helped them improve the energy efficiency of their properties as well as installing air tight foam insulation for new build  projects. This has involved our spraying teams travelling the length  and breadth of Scotland from Dumfries in the South West to The Black Isle in the North.

Good Crieff!

ecoadmin, November 11, 2011

The Crieff Hydro was the venue for the 2011 SFHA Property Maintenance Conference which took place earlier this month. The event was attended by over 90 delegates travelling from as far afield as Shetland in the North to Dumfries in the South who participated in various workshop and plenary sessions. The event also hosted an exhibition comprising leading commercial supporters of the SFHA and suppliers to the Social Housing sector. Our own stand attracted a great deal of interest and gave us the opportunity to meet new clients as well as those for whom we have already successfully completed insulation projects.

Flying the flag at St Andrews

ecoadmin, November 5, 2010

We were pleased to be part of the SFHA Property Maintenance Conference at St. Andrews recently where there was a great deal of interest in  our solutions to help Housing Associations reach the SHQS by 2015.  We demonstrated ways of reducing heat loss by applying foam to profiled sheet roofing, Weir steel framed houses, no fines construction and traditional stone built properties which are difficult to treat using more conventional materials. These construction methods don’t always allow a great depth of insulation to be fitted, limiting the potential for energy savings. However we know that the added air tightness properties of Spray foam provides improved performance by reducing heat loss through air leakage.
