New Build Projects

Air sealing at Clathymore, Perth
A and J Stephen Ltd

New build timber framed build comprising a mixture of quilt insulation and insulated plaster board to achieve the required ‘U'value. However air tightness was critical for the client and eco Insulate were specified to apply Icynene LD-C-50 to both insulate and air seal between storey height panel joints, corner and other joint details.
The building initially achieved an airtightness of 3 but is expected to achieve a rating of 1-2 once other non treated areas were sealed.

Timber framed kit, Biggar
Private client

New build timber frame project involving the application of Icynene LD-C-50 to the roof and external walls.
The roof was sprayed to a depth of 200mm, external walls to a depth between studs of 145mm. Additional work to reduce noise from airborne sound transmission was carried out by spraying internal partition walls with 75mm of Icynene.
The work was carried out over a number of months to suit progress on site and on completion the Client’s comments included ‘staff were very helpful and knowledgeable’ with the overall experience of our company being ‘excellent’.

Timber framed kit, Evanton
G Developments Ltd

Project comprised new build timber framed kit with 145mm Icynene LD-C-50 sprayed between studs of external walls and between the trusses of the Sun room roof.
Work was completed in under 5 days which included spraying and trimming back as required to enable the subsequent fitting of plasterboard.
The Client has since returned to eco Insulate Ltd looking for prices for 2 other projects with which he is involved.

Historic Building extension, Milnathort
Private client

Project comprised masonry built extension to an existing building. The walls incorporated an insulated cavity and were strapped out internally with our foam being applied direct to the inner blockwork between studs to a depth of 50mm.
The roof space was sprayed to a depth of 150mm.
Work was completed to suit the Client’s programme with them saying they are ‘delighted with the insulation’, the quality of the installation ‘excellent’ and they would be ’happy to act as a reference.’

Canal boat for The Seagull Trust
A.L Gordon Engineering Ltd, Falkirk

Project comprised the insulation of a new steel hulled canal boat being built for the use of physically handicapped children. Icynene MD-R-200 medium density formula was used to spray the hull above bilge level and the cabin walls and ceiling to a depth or around 50mm.
This material was chosen for its improved resistance to water penetration and general insulating properties.
Retrofit Projects

Air sealing
Hendry Homes, Ayr

Project comprised air sealing of conversions and extensions to an original Mill’s various buildings. The natural drying out process of Green Oak framed components and complex detailing of the buildings resulted in higher than anticipated running costs of heat pumps. Independent consultants identified areas of air leakage which were subsequently treated by eco Insulate Ltd using Icynene Pour fill formula water blown spray foam. This was injected through the internal plasterboard finishes with the low pressure expansion rates of the foam enabling it to be applied with no detrimental effects to the structure. The homes were occupied during the process which meant that careful planning was required and extensive protection needed to protect fitting s and furniture during the application.

Grain Store eaves sealing
Balcaskie Estates, Fife

This Farming Estate had a large Grain store which suffered from snow penetration at eaves and valley gutters. We sprayed Icynene water blown foam into these areas working from a cradle fitted to a telehoist. The work was completed in under a day and forms part of the variety of work we carry out for many large agricultural estates and landowners.

Roof Insulation, Crailing House
Lothian Estates, Jedburgh

One of many projects carried out for Lothian Estates, this time on behalf of a well known stage and TV personality who bought the property to refurbish. Eco Insulate Ltd’s work involved the insulation of roof spaces, dormer windows and external basement walls. Varying thicknesses of Icynene LD-C-50 were applied over a two month period to tie in with the overall refurbishment programme.
The success of this initial contract has led to ongoing business for this Client whose comments on our work include ‘Very helpful, knowledgeable and prompt’.

Scraesburgh Farm Cottage
Refurbishment and extension

This traditional stone built cottage situated in The Borders formed part of a refurbishment and extension project. The internal lath and plaster finish walls were stripped to allow the application of foam prior to re-boarding. The extension was also sprayed with Icynene LD-C-50 to help achieve the desired ‘U’ values.
The Client’s comments regarding our work included ‘Very helpful staff’, the spraying team carried out a ‘good quality of installation’ and left the home ‘tidy’.

Timber frame kit retrofit
Crieff

This project involved the retrofitting on insulation to a timber framed house built around 1979. Whilst the house had been built to the relevant standards of the time, rising fuel costs and the need for additional comfort led the Client to eco Insulate Ltd. We insulated the cavity of the timber frame between the external sheathing ply and internal plasterboard by injecting through the walls. The whole house was completed in a day and the client started re-decoration immediately we had finished. Their comments on our work included ‘ very polite, knowledgeable and helpful staff’ and that both the quality of the installation and experience of our company was ‘Excellent.’

Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association
Retrofit internal cavity fill, Kyle of Lochalsh

A project involving injection of Icynene Pour fill formula to provide additional insulation to older housing stock of Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association. A series of holes were drilled at 600mm centres and the material injected to fill the void behind the strapped and lined walls. Generally the work was completed within one day avoiding additional costs associated with the need to decant tenants.
The success of this contract led to further work, one of which was a major project comprising the treatment of 70 their properties in Skye.

Albyn Housing Society Retrofit
No-fines construction, Nairn

This No-fines built property belonging to Albyn Housing Association was treated with Icynene Pour fill formula. This method of system building , popular in the 1960’s has since proved very difficult to make more energy efficient without the need for expensive overcladding. eco Insulate Ltd were able to provide a cost effective solution which could be accommodated within this Association’s void property programme, avoiding the need for longer term capital projects.
Although the narrow cavity behind the plasterboard which is typical in this type of construction didn’t provide the opportunity to drastically increase the ‘U’ value of the walls, the combination of Icynene’s penetrating capabilities, insulating and air tightness performance led to a vast overall reduction in energy loss through the structure.

Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association
Retrofit timber framed housing, Portree

This project involved the retrofitting of insulation to timber framed housing built in the last two years where insulation installed had proved inadequate. eco Insulate Ltd injected Icynene Pour Fill formula into localised areas of the cavity of the timber frame between the external sheathing ply and internal plasterboard to bring the properties up to the required standard. In each case tenants were able to remain in their homes while the work was carried out.

Traditional House, Laurencekirk
Private Client

This stone built property near Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire is in an exposed position and the owner was suffering from very high fuel bills. Treatment was carried out by drilling and injecting the lath and plaster walls with Icynene Pour Fill formula over a 5 day period and the Client has already reported a dramatic improvement in comfort levels. He will be monitoring his fuel costs over the coming year and reporting back to us on the improvement following application. The Client’s comments following our visit included ‘Delighted with the work, our house is much warmer and we have turned down the heating.’

Traditional House, Musselburgh
Private Client

This property in Musselburgh had originally been refurbished following a major fire but at the time little or no thought had been given to making the building more energy efficient. Eco Insulate Ltd completed injection work to the whole building within 4 days by using Icynene Pour Fill formula to fill the void between the plasterboard and external masonry walls. The Client was completely satisfied with the work carried out and said ‘The workers were very polite and asked for our opinion on several occasions which was appreciated. Very professional and courteous. We would recommend the company again.’

Insulation of steelwork
Seamill Hydro Hotel Leisure Club

The Hotel Leisure Club was undergoing a complete refurbishment for the coming season, however rust stains on the walls caused by condensation on exposed steelwork were unsightly. Eco Insulate Ltd were contracted to spray the steel work with Icynene LD-C-50 which formed an air seal around the steel preventing warm moist air from reaching the cold steel where it would lead to condensation. The work was programmed to fit in with other trades and completed over a two day period.

Underfloor Insulation, Schools
Orkney Islands Council

Orkney Isles Council contracted eco Insulate Ltd to treat floor void areas under two schools with the work being completed over a 2-3 day period during school holidays. On completion of the work, the Project Manager commented that the staff were ‘very helpful’ and the quality of the installation was ‘excellent.’

Engineering workshop
Dunsyre

This engineering workshop in Lanarkshire was affected by condensation dripping from the profiled metal roof. The workshop had many large fixed items of equipment and storage racks which had to be carefully protected while the work proceeded. Icynene LD-C-50 was sprayed direct to the underside of the sheeting to a minimum depth of 100mm with access from a telehoist and work completed within 2-3 days. The Client was pleased with the outcome and said ‘I would certainly recommend your company to other bodies. Many thanks.’
